It’s still all about the baseball – and it was fun while it lasted

Another week, another look at the standings. It it’s not as pleasant a picture as last week but I’ll take second place while Burrell is on a monster hitting streak.

Hah, hah. Stupid Petey. Mets suck!

Things ain’t so pretty for my dear, beloved Red Sox:

But it is a pretty thing to see the Yankees in the cellar. Especially considering the rollicking spanking they got yesterday on a gorgeous spring day in Fenway park.

But the point was to finish up my Opening Day journeys. Let me tell you, a four hour, ten dollar drive first thing in the morning isn’t pleasant but seeing Baltimore in the early morning sunshine is. And seeing Citizen’s Bank Park in the early afternoon light definitely is.

I guess we sat in our assigned seats for all of ten minutes. Most of the day was spent drinking beer and eating Tony Luke’s steaks in the best ballpark position of all.

You have to love standing in a spot that warns you of possible bodily harm. Especially after your dear brother read the ticket disclaimer aloud. It was so perfect, I even consented to a picture – although we had some trouble with the timer.

Take one:

Take two:

He’s the pretty one.

The ceremonies were pretty impressive:

That’s both teams, a joint military color guard with an outfield-sized flag and the Philadelphia Boys Choir all out there to see an old Washington Senator throw out the first pitch. That was beautiful, the game not so much. Still, we pulled off a win on Opening Day. That’s always a pleasant thing. Thankfully, the Phils haven’t played as consistently bad as they did that first day but they don’t seem to have jelled either.

Ah well. It’s early.

There are only a very few things that can make me truly happy. Most of them are summed up in this little ditty:

There’s a pint upon the table
There’s another on the way
And with my girl beside me
I’m a happy man today.

If you add a ballgame on the telly, that would be a complete list.
